Do Java and Bedrock Realms cost the same?

No. A Realm is monthly rent for a private world, not the price of buying Minecraft. On Mojang’s U.S. Realms page I checked, Bedrock starts at $3.99 a month and Java sits at $7.99.

Cheapest U.S. listed plan

$3.99

Bedrock Realms per month (U.S. page, Aug 12, 2026).

Java & Realms Plus

$7.99

Each per month on the same U.S. panel. Different products, same listed price.

What this is.

I compared listed monthly prices for Java and Bedrock Realms on Mojang’s U.S. page (saved Aug 12, 2026). They are separate subscriptions.

Why it matters.

Friends often ask if “Realms” is one price. Bedrock has a cheaper base plan. Java and Realms Plus sit at the higher listed tier.

Bedrock starts cheaper. Java does not.

You buy Minecraft once. A Realm is extra. It is a private world that Mojang hosts for you, so friends can join even when you are offline. Java Realms and Bedrock Realms are not one shared product. They are two subscriptions with their own listed prices.

The U.S. English Realms page I saved on Aug 12, 2026 lists three plans. Bedrock’s base plan lists at $3.99 a month for you plus two friends in the world at once. Java Realms and Realms Plus both list at $7.99 a month, with you plus ten players at once.

Java’s monthly price is about twice Bedrock’s cheapest plan. Realms Plus also includes Marketplace Pass catalog access. Java Realms does not, because Java does not use that Marketplace.

US monthly list prices

Three plans, two dollar amounts. Bedrock base is cheaper; Java and Realms Plus match at $7.99.

A year of Java Realms costs more than three copies of the game

U.S. PC Java & Bedrock still lists about $29.99 as a one-time buy (cost panel). That is the game itself. A Realm is rent on top of that.

A year of Java Realms at $7.99 a month is about $96 before tax. If you keep the subscription running, that is more than three base-game listed prices. Friends who only need a world for a season can stop paying. Friends who treat Realms as the family server keep paying every month.

Takeaway.

No: Java and Bedrock Realms are not the same monthly price. Bedrock starts at $3.99/mo. Java and Realms Plus list at $7.99/mo on the U.S. page I checked.

How I calculated it

Scraped https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/realms on 2026-08-12. Pulled listed prices and FAQ lines for the three plans and simultaneous-player caps. Numbers locked August 2026.

Honest limits.

This is a U.S. English minecraft.net price save, not every Xbox, PlayStation, or App Store listing. UK and Canada Realms pages were missing when I checked; the German page still showed the same USD listed prices. Re-check your live store before you buy.
