How many times people opened the English Wikipedia page titled Minecraft each month: a public count of “people looked it up,” not players online.
When school went remote, more people opened the Wikipedia page. That spike is real attention. It is still not a player-count chart.
The page got much busier in 2020, then spiked again
Wikipedia is not the game. It is the encyclopedia page a lot of people open when they want the short version: who made it, when it came out, what the editions are. I wanted to know when that page got busy, so I counted how many times people opened the English Minecraft article each month, then averaged those months into years so the chart is easier to read.

Mid-2010s averages sat roughly in the 180k–260k opens-per-month range. 2020 jumps to about 423k, about twice those quieter years. Later years stay higher than 2017. The page did not go back to the old quiet.
The biggest single month in my numbers is April 2025, at about 627k opens. That is about 21,000 opens a day, on one encyclopedia page, for one month. Remote-school years and that later spike both lit up the page. I am not treating either one as “most players ever.”
Busy reading is not players online
More Wikipedia clicks does not mean “most players ever.” Opening an encyclopedia page is looking something up. Logging into Minecraft is playing. Those can rise together, or they can split. I leave the player-count claim out on purpose.
