The gold block looks richer. The anvil recipe still wins on tonnes. That does not change how anvils play in Survival.
The repair bench beats the gold cube
Place an anvil on the grass next to a gold block. Gold looks like the heavy prize. The anvil looks like a dark iron repair bench: you use it to fix tools, combine enchantments, and rename gear. In Survival both items weigh nothing. You pick them up with the same empty hand.
Minecraft never prints kilograms. If both were giant cubes of real metal, the anvil is about 27 tonnes. The gold cube is about 19. The repair bench still comes out heavier.
Gold is denser than iron, but the anvil is made of more metal. Three iron blocks plus four iron ingots add up to more tonnes than one solid meter of gold.

Three cubic meters of iron already land near 24 tonnes. The extra ingots push the anvil to about 27 tonnes. A solid gold cube, using real gold density, is about 19 tonnes. That’s why the repair bench wins on a real scale.
In Survival you still carry both in one inventory slot. The game never charges you for the tonnes.
Under this what-if, the anvil (~27 t) beats a solid gold cube (~19 t). Minecraft never shows either number in Survival.
How I calculated it
Anvil craft = 3 iron blocks + 4 iron ingots. Iron / gold densities and the 1 m³ block convention follow How heavy is a Minecraft block? Ingredient masses add up to the product.
The game never assigns real tonnes. This what-if only works if a block is a full cubic meter of pure metal. It does not change how anvils play in Survival for you.
