What is Minecraft Dungeons?
Minecraft Dungeons is a loot-and-run action game set in the Minecraft world. You pick a hero, smash mobs, and open chests for named weapons and armor.
You do not mine, build, or use Creative. Up to four people can play together. I play it with family.

How many players can play Minecraft Dungeons?
Up to four. That covers online co-op and local split-screen when your device and extra controllers allow it.
It is not Minecraft’s big server player count. Four heroes in one mission.
Is Minecraft Dungeons cross-platform?
Yes. Mojang added cross-platform play so Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and Windows can join the same four-player session. You link a Microsoft account.
Cloud saves can move a hero between platforms on that account. DLC stays with the store where you bought it.
Is Minecraft Dungeons still being updated?
No. The last client on the wiki is 1.17.0.0 (November 30, 2022). Mojang said development ended on September 28, 2023.
You can still buy it and play it. New Dungeons story continues in Minecraft Dungeons II.
When did Minecraft Dungeons come out?
May 26, 2020 on Windows Store, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch. Steam for Windows followed on September 22, 2021.

Minecraft Dungeons II is the sequel. Same kind of game: loot, missions, up to four players. It is a new buy, not an update to the first game.

Mojang’s about page says September 29, 2026. Steam lists the same day.
The limited pre-order bonus on that page expires September 28, 2026. Check Mojang’s page if the release date changes.
Do I need Minecraft Dungeons to play Dungeons II?
No. Mojang’s about page says you do not need to play the first game to play Dungeons II. Playing the first one can help you enjoy the sequel more.
II is sold as its own game. Owning the first game is not a requirement.
How much will Minecraft Dungeons II cost?
On August 17, 2026, Steam US listed the pre-order at $29.99, and Deluxe at $49.99. Deluxe adds extra cosmetics and the first two DLC packs as they come out.
