Best fullness per calorie
Golden carrot
Best Minecraft sprint fuel per real calorie. I don’t count the gold as food energy.
Worst fullness per calorie
Cookie
Lots of real calories, almost no game buffer. Cake slices sit near the bottom too.
A ranking of Minecraft foods by how much fullness you get per real kitchen calorie, using one 100-gram rule for every food. Companion to How wrong is Minecraft about food?
The hunger bar and the kitchen are scoring different things. Rank the same foods both ways and the mismatch is easy to see.
Companion: How wrong is Minecraft about food? (the three-food story) · 100-day diets · Would a Minecraft hunger-bar diet feed a real person?.
Golden carrots climb. Cookies fall to the floor.
You pull a golden carrot from a chest, eat it, and keep sprinting. You eat a cookie from the same chest and the bar barely notices.
I wanted to know which Minecraft foods look most mismatched next to real kitchen calories. Under one ranking, golden carrots sit at the top: about 35 saturation points per 100 real calories. Cookies sit at the floor: about 0.08.
That’s not a close race. The golden carrot is elite sprint fuel in-game, and I only count a carrot in the kitchen (41 calories per 100 grams). I don’t count the gold. The cookie is dense in the kitchen (492 calories per 100 grams) and almost empty in-game (2 hunger, 0.4 saturation).
Steak lands near 6.0 on the same scale. It fills the bar well, and cooked beef is actually calorie-dense, so it does not look like a magic trick. Cake slices join the cookies at the bottom (0.10).
| Food | Game sat | kcal / 100 g | Sat per 100 real kcal |
|---|---|---|---|
| Golden carrot | 14.4 | 41.0 | 35.1 |
| Mushroom stew | 7.2 | 39.0 | 18.5 |
| Golden apple | 9.6 | 52.0 | 18.5 |
| Carrot | 3.6 | 41.0 | 8.8 |
| Baked potato | 6.0 | 93.0 | 6.5 |
| Cooked porkchop | 12.8 | 209.0 | 6.1 |
| Steak | 12.8 | 212.0 | 6.0 |
| Cooked cod | 6.0 | 105.0 | 5.7 |
The golden carrot is the weird cell: 35.1 saturation points per 100 real calories. Mushroom stew looks generous too (18.5), but that row uses a watery canned-soup stand-in. I would not make stew the headline.
Which foods look filling in the kitchen but not in-game?
Cookies and cake slices pack a lot of real calories into a small bite. Minecraft barely credits them. Raw fish sits in the same neighborhood: kitchen energy with almost no sprint buffer.
| Food | Game sat | kcal / 100 g | Sat per 100 real kcal |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cookie | 0.4 | 492.0 | 0.08 |
| Cake (slice) | 0.4 | 389.0 | 0.10 |
| Raw salmon | 0.4 | 208.0 | 0.19 |
| Honey bottle | 1.2 | 304.0 | 0.40 |
| Raw mutton | 1.2 | 282.0 | 0.43 |
| Raw Cod | 0.4 | 82.0 | 0.49 |
The cookie is the other end of the same ranking: 0.08.
Selected foods on one scale
Taller = more Minecraft saturation for the same real-world calories. Same 100 g kitchen rule on every bar.
Why the same kitchen weight for every food?
Minecraft does not tell us an item weighs 100 grams. I still needed one kitchen weight for every food, or the ranking becomes a stack of different serving guesses.
So every comparable food maps to 100 grams of one real stand-in. Score = game saturation ÷ real calories × 100. That asks: how much Minecraft tank do you buy per kitchen calorie?
Change everyone’s weight together (all 85 grams, all 100, all 200) and the rank order stays the same. Golden items still count produce only. Metal is not kitchen energy in this ranking.
The hunger bar is a sprint-and-fight meter. Kitchen calories are a different score. I just put those two scores next to each other.
Steak can look fair because both systems like it. Golden carrots are elite in-game on carrot energy. Cookies are kitchen-dense and almost empty in the game.
How I calculated it
Metric: saturation per 100 kcal at 100 g assumed mass. Ranking = game saturation ÷ real calories × 100 (not a wiki reprint of hunger points alone). Full method matches Part 1 of the food series. USDA SR Legacy kcal + Minecraft hunger/saturation from the wiki Food tables.
Mushroom stew maps to a watery canned soup stand-in. Great for “the game overvalues thin food,” weak as gourmet criticism. Golden items ignore metal as calories on purpose.
